Rare Vintage Old Photos of Columbia River Dam Construction using Horses Oregon

  

ITEM: (2) Rare, vintage photos taken by a man named Blake who worked on this dam in close to the Columbia River. The number of teams of horses used is amazing.

Below is transcribed what was written by this man on the back. He mentions the Columbia is about 4 miles away so this must have been in the Columbian basin on one of the tributaries where is is very flat. The photos are in excellent quality with amazing details for being over 120 years old. Side 1: Dear sir this is a picture of of the dam taken from the gate tower looking towards camp. The flag is on our office & bunks.

The other is looking towards the superintendents quarters across the canyon. It will give you an idea of this sagebrush country. You see they don't quite have to make the dam complete. Made a mistake thought I was writing on the other picture will send you a picture of the tower later. Side 2: Dam taken from the top of tower looking Northwest towards quarters.

Looking towards the Highland in the background is the Columbia River four miles away. Size: 5.00" x 7.00". Condition: See Scans, very good.
