VINTAGE ARMITAGE HERSCHELL CAROUSEL TRACK HORSE Beautiful & Rare! What a RARE FIND HERE, an original vintage Armitage Herschell carousel horse. You don't see these and in this great of shape very often. The leg is detached, but not broke off.
Allan Herschell and James Armitage operated from about 1892 through 1902, carving portable carousels Their steam riding galleries still exist at Willowbrook Village in Maine and in Greenville, Mississippi. What is a track horse carousel? These were carousels where the horses were fastened on the end of beams (set up like spokes of a wagon wheel) on a circular platform. The horses were connected with metal fasteners that pivoted allowing the horses to rock back and forth as they traveled in a circle.
