Our German ancestors originally settled in Brooklyn, NY, and we believe these were designed and cast there in the 1890s. They are a one-of-a-kind set. Weight: 17.5-pounds each; 35-pounds in total.
If you remove the cast iron L-brackets the estimated total bronze weight is 30-pounds. Dimensions: (Without cast iron brackets) 15-inches high, 14.4-inches wide, 1-inch deep. These horses were cast in separate bronze pieces and joined by machine screws. The horses are as-cast; no cracks or bends. They will require careful cleaning. One wing is off and requires two new screws. A few other screws are missing. The horses are mounted on cast iron L-brackets probably added later which can be removed.
There is some green patina. Bronze and brass turn green due chemical reactions between the copper in those alloys and the atmosphere. The green is most often copper carbonate.
